One of the things that separates Reign of Voldemort from other Potter sites is that we actually expect you to go to school, since Hogwarts is, after all, a school. In order to advance in years, you will need to pass the courses that you take.
Please read the following VERY carefully, as it is extremely important and understanding this will prevent a lot of pain in the future.
Each class will run over the course of FIVE weeks (real-time) with one class being offered per week. You are expected to be active in each class you are in. Whether or not you pass a course is dependent on your attendance (post count in class), homework (if any) and exam result (if any).
All classes are graded the same:
65% Attendance
25% Exam
10% Homework
If a class doesn't have an exam and/or homework, then that portion of the grade is transferred to Attendance. 65% Attendance means you could pass solely on Attendance if you wanted to, but you would need Outstanding Attendance to pull that off.
Acceptable Attendance is one post per class
Exceeds Expectations Attendance is two posts per class
Outstanding Attendance is three or more posts per class
There are EIGHTEEN classes offered at Hogwarts, and they are grouped into five categories: Core Subjects, Forced Electives, Primary Electives, Secondary Electives, and Supplementary Courses
Core Subjects[/i]
---Dark Arts, Transfiguration, and Charms---
These courses are mandatory for all First-Through-Fifth year students. Failure in one of these courses will result in your character repeating the ENTIRE year.
Forced Electives[/i]
---Flying and Dueling---
These courses are mandatory. First and Second-year students take Flying, and Third-Through-Fifth year students take Dueling. Failure in one of these courses will result in your character repeating that course until a passing grade is earned
Primary Electives[/i]
---Potions, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures---
First and Second-year students take ONE of these. Third Year Students may select an additional one or may choose a Secondary Elective (see below). Failure in one of these courses will result in your character repeating that course until a passing grade is earned.
Secondary Electives[/i]
---Divination, Astronomy, Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, History of Magic, Muggle Studies---
Third-year students take ONE of these, supplementing the first-year elective they have chosen. Third-Year Students may select an additional Primary Elective if they so choose and their grades are good enough. Failure in one of these courses will result in your character repeating that course until a passing grade is earned.
Supplementary Courses
---Dark Artefacts, Animagus Training, Apparition, Mental Aptitude---
These courses are only available to NEWT level students (6th and 7th year) and have requirements that are up to the professor teaching them. More detail will be available in the Course List.
These courses are advanced and are always OPTIONAL. Failure in 6th year results in removal from the course.
